MacBook Not Turning on:
1. If you have recently spilt water on your Macbook do not try any troubleshooting techniques. Please take your device to the Library.
2. Is it charged?
- Plug-in your charger and ensure the indicator light is on, orange indicates it is charging and green indicates it is charged.
3. SMC Reset
- Turn off your MacBook.
- Plug the charger to your MacBook.
- Press the Shift, Control, Option keys and the Power button at the same time.
- Release all keys and the power button at the same time.
- The indicator light on the charger will change to indicate the SMC has been reset.
4. PRAM Reset
- Turn off your MacBook.
- Press the power button and then press command, option, p, r keys. This needs to be done immediately after pressing the power button.
- Hold down the keys until you hear the startup chime twice.
- Let go of the keys and let your MacBook reboot normally.
5. If none of the above has worked, please take your MacBook to the HelpDesk.
MacBook not Charging:
1. Try plugging the charger into another outlet in your house.
2. Try flipping the charger around to see if an indicator light comes on.
3. Try using the other charger adaptor that came with your MacBook. *Could be the long extension or the short plug, just try the one currently not connected*
4. SMC Reset
- Turn off your MacBook.
- Plug the charger to your MacBook.
- Press the Shift, Control, Option keys and the Power button at the same time.
- Release all keys and the power button at the same time.
- The indicator light on the charger will change to indicate the SMC has been reset.
5. PRAM Reset
- Turn off your MacBook.
- Press the power button and then press command, option, p, r keys. This needs to be done immediately after pressing the power button.
- Hold down the keys until you hear the startup chime twice.
- Let go of the keys and let your MacBook reboot normally.
6. If none of the above has worked, please take your MacBook to the HelpDesk.
MacBook Fans running Loud:

- Release all keys and the power button at the same time.

3. If none of the above has worked, please take your MacBook to the HelpDesk.
Glasshouse Wi-fi not connecting:
1. Check your date and time is correct
- In the top right of your screen, click on the time.
- If it is incorrect, click 'Open Date and Time Preferences'
- This will prompt your System Preferences to open
- Click the lock in the bottom left-hand corner and enter your password.
- Alter the date to be correct.
- Try reconnecting to the wifi.
2. Restart your MacBook.
3. Try reconnecting to the Wi-fi. If nothing has worked, please take the device to the HelpDesk in the Library.
MacBook Running Slow
1. Check how much storage space you have used, and do some spring cleaning of items you no longer use.
- Click on the Apple in the top left-hand corner.
- Click 'About this Mac'
- Click 'Storage'.
- Click 'Manage'.
2. Restart your MacBook.
3. If none of the above has worked, please take your MacBook to the HelpDesk.
